Kia MCP Cover vs Extended Warranty: What Does Each Include?

When buying or servicing a Kia, you may be offered an extended warranty and a plan called My Convenience Plus, often shortened to MCP. It is easy to mistake them for the same product because an MCP package includes extended warranty coverage. The difference is in what else the package provides.

NRL Kia's service form asks owners whether their car has “MCP cover” and whether it has an extended warranty. The answers depend on the actual package and certificate for your vehicle. Here is how to understand the options before you decide or book a service.

What is Kia extended warranty?

A standalone Kia extended warranty extends eligible protection against certain mechanical or electrical defects beyond the standard vehicle warranty, subject to the chosen term, kilometre limit and policy conditions. Kia lists different options based on the model and the car's age.

The extended warranty is not a prepaid service plan. Kia specifically excludes normal maintenance, ordinary wear-and-tear replacement, certain rubber parts, AC refrigerant leakage, batteries, and Audio/AV/AVNT units from its extended warranty terms. A repair is covered only if it meets the applicable conditions and Kia confirms the defect.

That means a service bill for scheduled oil, filters or worn brake parts does not automatically become a warranty claim.

What is Kia My Convenience Plus (MCP)?

Kia My Convenience Plus is a package combining scheduled periodic maintenance, extended warranty and roadside assistance, according to the plan selected. Its maintenance portion follows the service schedule in the owner's manual. It does not mean that every repair, replacement or optional treatment is included.

Kia describes two package levels:

Package

Scheduled maintenance

Extended warranty component

Roadside assistance

Premium

Up to 4 years / 40,000 km

Standard 3 years plus 1 year; coverage up to 4 years / 100,000 km

Standard 3 years, with an option for a further year

Luxury

Up to 5 years / 50,000 km

Standard 3 years plus 2 years; coverage up to 5 years / 120,000 km

Standard 3 years plus 2 years, under the package terms

The time and kilometre limits are different for maintenance and warranty. Check each component on the quotation rather than reading “five years of cover” as a promise that every service item and repair is covered for five years. Kia's My Convenience Plus information gives the package outline; your certificate and current terms govern your car.

MCP vs extended warranty at a glance

Question

Standalone extended warranty

My Convenience Plus (MCP)

Does it include scheduled periodic maintenance?

No. Normal maintenance is excluded.

Yes, for scheduled services within the chosen package limits and terms.

Does it include extended warranty?

Yes, as the product itself.

Yes, as one part of the package.

Is roadside assistance included in the same package?

Check any separate RSA entitlement or purchase.

Included or extendable as stated for the selected package.

Are all wear-and-tear parts covered?

No. Normal wear is excluded.

Do not assume so; Kia offers a separate My Convenience Secure add-on for selected wear items, subject to eligibility.

The question is therefore not just “How long is the warranty?” It is also “Do I want to pay in advance for scheduled service and roadside assistance as part of the same plan?”

Does MCP cover brake pads, clutch parts and other wear items?

Do not treat MCP as unlimited repair cover. The prepaid maintenance element relates to the scheduled work defined by your owner's manual and package. Kia's service FAQ describes My Convenience Secure as a separate paid add-on for selected wear-and-tear parts such as brake and clutch components, subject to its own availability and terms.

Ask for a written list of included services and exclusions before purchasing. If you have already bought MCP, keep the invoice and certificate handy when booking service.

When can you buy these plans?

Timing and eligibility differ. Kia's My Convenience Plus brochure describes purchase within the first 60 days after vehicle purchase. Kia's standalone extended warranty page describes later purchase options, subject to service history, vehicle condition, mileage and other eligibility checks.

Program terms and model availability can change. Before paying, request the current plan quotation for your vehicle identification number (VIN), the purchase deadline, all component limits, applicable taxes and the certificate terms. Kia publishes different extended-warranty prices for different models, fuel types, vehicle ages and cover options, so one quoted price cannot represent every car.

Five questions to ask before choosing

  1. What do I already have? Check the delivery date, standard warranty, roadside assistance and any plan certificate already issued.

  2. What exactly is included? Request the maintenance schedule covered and the separate warranty and RSA limits.

  3. What remains payable? Ask about wear items, accidental damage, optional treatments and work outside the maintenance schedule.

  4. When does each benefit end? Note both the date and kilometre limit for each component.

  5. How will a claim or service be recorded? Confirm that your package details and service history are linked to your vehicle and keep copies of invoices and certificates.

Kia's extended warranty terms also require maintenance according to the owner's manual at an authorised Kia workshop and retention of service records. Read the current extended warranty conditions before relying on a particular claim.

Frequently asked questions

Is Kia MCP the same as extended warranty?
No. My Convenience Plus includes extended warranty as one component alongside scheduled maintenance and roadside assistance under the selected package. A standalone extended warranty is a separate product.

Does a Kia extended warranty pay for regular servicing?
No. Kia lists normal maintenance among its extended-warranty exclusions. Check whether your car has a separate maintenance plan or an MCP package.

Does MCP cover every repair for four or five years?
No. The maintenance and warranty components have different limits and exclusions. Coverage for a particular repair depends on Kia's terms and the claim assessment.

I already have MCP. Should I buy extended warranty again?
First check the MCP certificate: the package already includes an extended-warranty component. Ask the dealership to compare your existing end date and kilometre limit with any additional product before you pay for overlapping cover.

Choose from the written coverage, not the label

An extended warranty can help with eligible unexpected defects. MCP adds scheduled maintenance and roadside assistance to its warranty component. The right comparison is the actual certificate, included services, limits, exclusions and current price for your Kia.
